must have pp / would have pp / could have pp / should have pp / may might have pp

 

 

Must have p.p is used to express certainty about the past. *

과거를 단정적으로 추측할 때 must have pp를 사용합니다. (분명 ~였겠다. ~였음에 틀림없다.)

ex)The killer must have driven her to Lauriston Gdns. 살인범은 분명 그녀를 Lauriston Gdns으로 몰고 갔어.

 

We went to Paris last week.

That must have been nice. (좋았겠당)

 

must have pp 의 부정은 can't have pp를 씁니다. (~했을리가 없다.)

ex)Do you know where Kate put my key? She can't have thrown it away.

     케이트가 내 키 어디다 뒀는지 알아? 버렸을리는 없는데.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We use may/might have + past participle to say that it is possible that sth happend or was true in the past.

과거에 어떤 일이 일어났을 가능성 또는 사실이었을 가능성을 표현하기 위해 may/might have pp를 사용합니다. (~였을지도 몰라.)

 

ex)Scott's very late. He may have missed his bus. (스캇이 늦네요. 버스를 놓쳤을지도 몰라요)

     What was that noise? It might have been a rat. (뭔 소리였지? 쥐였을지도 몰라.)

     I think I might have forgotten the tickets. (표를 잃어버린 것 같다. 과거의 일. 정말 잃어버린 것인지는 확실하지 않음)

 

 

 

 

Might have + pp is used to say that sth was possible but did not happen.

가능성은 있었으나 실제로 일어나진 않을 일을 나타낼 때 might have pp를 사용합니다.

~했을지도 모른다. ~할 뻔했다.

 

ex)What did you climb up there for? You might have killed yourself. (거긴 뭣하러 올라갔냐? 죽을 뻔했잖아)

    If she hadn't been so bad-tempered, I might have married her. (그녀 성질이 그렇게 고약하지 않았으면 그녀와 결혼했을지도 모른다.)

 

 

 

한국어로 옮겨 놓으니까 could have pp와 의미가 같아 보이지만 사실은 어느정도 차이가 있습니다.

If he'd tried a bit harder, he could have won the race.그가 좀 더 노력했다면 경주에서 이길 수 있었을텐데...(indicates that it is a possibility.)

If he'd tried a bit harder, he might have won the race.그가 좀 더 노력했다면 경주에서 이길 수 있었을지도 모른다. (similar in meaning to could have, although the possibility is perhaps not quite as great)의미는 비슷하나 가능성이 could have pp만큼 크진 않음.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Would have pp is often used in order to refer to unreal or uncertain situation.

사실이 아니거나 불확실한 상황에 쓸 수 있습니다.

종종 if 가정법에 사용되죠?

사실 가정법에서는 would have pp는 다른 의미가 있다기보다는 시제를 맞추기 위해 사용하는 겁니다.

 

예를 들면 I would help you if I have time. (시간만 있다면 도와줄텐데)가

            I would have helped you if I had time. (시간만 있었다면 도와줬을텐데)와 시제만 다를 뿐 의미는 같다는 걸 아실 겁니다.

 

It wouldn't have taken him more than 5 minutes to realise his mistake.

그가 실수를 알아차리는데 5분도 안 걸렸을 거야.

 

It would have been nice if she thanked me.
